One of the best parts of any Ladakh trip? The mountain passes! First comes Umling La, then the famous Khardung La—and right up there with them is Changla Pass. Located on the route from Leh to Pangong Lake, Changla isn’t just a stopover, it’s an adventure in itself. The name “Changla” means “Pass towards the South,” and it’s protected by the Indian Army due to its high-altitude location and strategic importance.
Open for most of the year (except during heavy snowfall), Changla offers breathtaking views of the snow-cloaked Himalayas. There’s also a small temple of Changla Baba, the guardian spirit of the pass. And don’t miss the Army-run café that hands out free tea.
If you’re on a Ladakh bike tour, this pass is a must-stop spot! And don’t forget to pose with the iconic board and flex a little. Because in Ladakh, it’s not just the destinations that matter, it’s the unforgettable stops in between!
