About Sri Lanka Tour Packages

Ever wondered why Sri Lanka keeps showing up on every "underrated destinations in Asia" list, yet everyone who visits says otherwise? Sri Lanka fits beaches, hill stations, wildlife safaris, and ancient ruins into one compact island nation and it's just a 2-hour flight from India.

WanderOn has spent 8 years figuring out exactly how group travel should work across 22+ international destinations. We offer 22+ Sri Lanka tour packages spanning 5 to 8 days, starting at ₹32,999 per person with fixed-group departures.

Our classic Sri Lanka group tour packages cover Colombo, Sigiriya, Ella, Mirissa, and Galle. We cater to group travel with 15–20 people per batch while accommodation, meals, transfers, and a Trip Captain are all included.

Whether you're a solo traveller looking for your first international trip, a family wanting beaches without the chaos, a couple chasing the hill country train ride, or a group of friends who've been planning this for months, there's a Sri Lanka trip package here that fits. Departures run year-round from all major Indian cities.

Browse our Sri Lanka tour packages and lock in your 2026 dates.

Types of Sri Lanka Tour Packages Offered by WanderOn

Sri Lanka Group Tour Packages

Our Sri Lanka Group tour packages run with 15–20 travellers per batch. A WanderOn Trip Captain handles all logistics with hotel check-ins, vehicle coordination, activity bookings, and local guidance. Groups are matched for age-range and travel vibe.

These Sri Lanka group trips are ideal for solo travellers, friend groups, and anyone who wants a social, structured trip without doing the planning themselves.

Sri Lanka Backpacking Tour Packages

Sri Lanka backpacking tour packages offer a budget-friendly way to explore the island. Our itineraries cover the essential trail including Colombo, Sigiriya, Ella, Mirissa, and Galle with hostel/budget guesthouse stays, shared transfers, and flexible day plans.

Ideal for solo travellers and budget explorers, these Sri Lanka trip packages start from ₹32,999/person and are built to stretch your money without cutting the experience short.

Sri Lanka Tour Packages for Family

Our Sri Lanka family tour packages typically cover Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Nuwara Eliya hill station, and Bentota beach, a balanced mix without overpacking the day. These Sri Lanka tour packages for family include comfortable 3-star/4-star hotels, kid-friendly activity pacing, and AC vehicle transfers throughout.

Sri Lanka Honeymoon Packages

WanderOn’s Sri Lanka honeymoon packages offer private 7N/8D itineraries spanning Colombo, the Hill Country, and the South Coast. Includes romantic beachfront dinners, scenic train ride, couples' activities, and boutique hotel upgrades on request.

Sri Lanka Luxury Tour Packages

Sri Lanka luxury tour packages offer classic itineraries covering Yala National Park (leopard safari), Mirissa (whale watching), and Colombo, focused on quality over quantity. Enjoy luxury 4-star/5-star stays, private vehicles, and a dedicated local guide throughout.

Why Thousands of Indians Book Their Sri Lanka Trip With WanderOn?

WanderOn is one of India's most trusted group tour operators with thousands of travellers sent across 20+ international destinations since 2018. Our typical Sri Lanka travel packages run as a fixed-departure group trip and here's what actually makes the difference when you travel with us.

  1. We've done the groundwork so you don't have to: Every route, hotel, activity, and transfer in our Sri Lanka packages has been visited and tested by our team on ground. No guesswork, so you get the best experiences.
  2. An Expert Trip Captain on every batch: Not a local guide you meet at the airport but a WanderOn Trip Captain who travels with the group from day one, handles everything, and knows the itinerary cold.
  3. Groups that actually work: 15–20 travellers per batch, matched by age range and travel vibe. Solo travellers, friend groups, and first-time international travellers find new friends and a next trip planned.
  4. Transparent pricing, no surprises: What's listed on the package is what you pay. Inclusions and exclusions are clearly spelled out before you book; no hidden charges surface mid-trip.
  5. Departures from every major Indian city: Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata — Sri Lanka tour packages from India with coordinated departure support across cities.
  6. Pre-trip assistance to help you through everything: Visa guidance, packing lists, flight recommendations, what to expect on ground, our team is reachable 24/7 on Whatsapp before you even book, not just after.
  7. 4.9 star rating across Google and Tripadvisor: As one of our recent travelers wrote, “Our journey was very smooth because of our friendly and professional driver, who made traveling with family comfortable and easy. The hotels were absolutely beautiful, and a special thanks to Shreyash Parekh for continuously messaging and checking on our tour—it really made us feel cared for.” — Anjali Manu, Sri Lanka family trip (5 months ago)

The Classic 7-Day Sri Lanka Trip Itinerary

This is the backbone of WanderOn's Sri Lanka travel packages. Here’s what a typical Sri Lanka 7-day itinerary covers:

Day 1: Arrival + Negombo

Land at Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport. Private transfer to Negombo (35 km, ~45 min). Check in, beach walk, dinner at a local seafood restaurant. Easy first evening before the trip starts properly.

Day 2: Sigiriya + Dambulla

  • Morning: Dambulla Cave Temple, 5 rock caves, 150+ Buddha statues, 2,000-year-old murals carved into living granite. ~90 minutes.
  • Afternoon: Sigiriya Rock Fortress, the 5th-century royal citadel rising 200m above the jungle. Entry: USD 30. Start before 9 AM. The summit is cooler and less crowded.

Day 3: Drive to Kandy

  • 2.5-hour drive through rubber plantations and the edge of the Hill Country.
  • Afternoon visit to the Temple of the Tooth Relic and Kandy Lake walk.
  • Evening free — the food lanes around the lake are reliable for solo dining.

Day 4: Kandy to Ella by Train

  • The Kandy–Ella scenic train is the centrepiece of every Sri Lanka travel itinerary.
  • 7 hours through tea estates, waterfalls, and tunnels, doors open, landscape changing continuously.
  • Arrive Ella by late afternoon. Walk to Nine Arch Bridge at dusk, the 1921 colonial viaduct is best in evening light.

Day 5: Ella: Full day, no fixed pace.

  • Morning hike option A: Little Adam's Peak (45 min, easy panoramas)
  • Morning hike option B: Ella Rock (2.5 hrs, ridge walk with valley views)
  • Ravana Falls mid-morning. Afternoon free. Ella's cafes reward slow travel.

Day 6: South Coast

  • Drive to Mirissa or Unawatuna. Optional Galle Fort stop en route (17th-century Dutch colonial fortification, UNESCO-listed), worth the 90-minute detour. Beach evening on the south coast.

Day 7: Departure

  • Morning at leisure. Transfer to Colombo Airport. Departure.

The 8-day Sri Lanka community trip follows this same route and adds Galle Fort, Mirissa beach, and the Bentota River boat safari before the return drive to Colombo.

Iconic Places To Visit In Sri Lanka Every Traveler Loves

1. Sigiriya Rock Fortress

Sigiriya Rock Fortress is a 5th-century royal citadel, UNESCO World Heritage Site, 200m above the surrounding jungle. One of the major highlights of many Sri Lanka holiday packages. The ancient frescoes and Lion's Paw Gate are best before 9 AM, before tour groups arrive. Entry: USD 30.

2. Dambulla Cave Temple

Dambulla Cave Temple is one of the iconic places to visit in Sri Lanka, just 20 km from Sigiriya. Explore the five rock caves with 150+ Buddha statues and murals dating back 2,000 years, carved directly into living granite. Short climb, cool inside, extraordinary scale.

3. Kandy

Sri Lanka's last royal capital. Temple of the Tooth Relic and museum (Buddha's tooth housed in a golden casket), Kandy Lake, and Peradeniya Botanical Gardens with over 4,000 plant species. The train station here is the gateway to the Hill Country.

4. Nuwara Eliya

Nuwara Eliya is a hill station at 1,868m elevation, surrounded by rolling tea estates. The drive up from Kandy transforms the landscape where rubber plantations give way to mist, waterfalls, and green. A tea factory visit here is one of the most genuinely interesting 90-minute stops on any Sri Lanka travel package.

5. Ella

Ella is the best-loved stop on WanderOn's Sri Lanka Sri Lanka tour itineraries. Budget guesthouses with valley views, easy hikes (Little Adam's Peak, Ella Rock), Nine Arch Bridge, Ravana Falls, and a main street with enough good cafes to fill three evenings without repeating. Most people plan two nights and stay four.

6. Galle Fort

Galle is a 17th-century Dutch colonial fortification on the southwest coast, fully alive inside. 1.3 km rampart circuit with the Indian Ocean on three sides. Independent galleries, cafes inside 350-year-old buildings, and the lighthouse. One of the best solo or group afternoons on the island.

7. Mirissa

Mirissa is a south coast beach town and the base for whale watching in Sri Lanka (December–March). Blue whales and sperm whales in peak season, spinner dolphins year-round. The right size for a group traveller who wants the option of company but not the obligation of it.

8. Yala National Park

Yala National Park is home to the highest leopard density per square km in the world. Sloth bears, wild elephants, mugger crocodiles, and with good timing, you can even spot a leopard crossing the track close enough to count spots. Morning safaris start at 5:30 AM.

9. Trincomalee

Trincomalee is the East Coast alternative that’s less visited, cleaner beaches, calmer vibe. Tirukoneshwaram Temple perched on a cliff above the sea is one of the island's most striking sites. Best from May to September when the east coast is in season.

Check the Sri Lanka tourism guide for detailed information on the destination, complete ETA process, travel window, must-visit attractions, etc.

Sri Lanka Travel Guidelines

  1. Visa Requirements: You can apply for ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) online or on arrival. It is valid for 30 days and extendable up to 6 months. The visa fee for Indians is USD 20 approx. It is always recommended to carry a printed ETA approval for smoother entry.
  2. Currency: The official currency of Sri Lanka is Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR), and 1 INR ≈ 3.7 LKR (check latest rate). Though ATMs are widely used, cards are accepted in major cities. Do remember to carry cash for small vendors and rural areas.
  3. Language: The official language in Sri Lanka is Sinhala & Tamil, however English is also widely spoken in cities and tourist spots. You are also recommended to learn basic phrases in order to communicate well with the locals.
  4. Health & Safety: It is advisable to carry your travel insurance. Do not forget to carry mosquito repellant due to dengue risks. Sri Lanka is generally safe for tourists, however be cautious of petty thefts.
  5. Transportation: You can travel in Sri Lanka using domestic flights connecting major cities. You can also travel via trains if you prefer scenic rides. PickMe app can be used for booking cabs and buses and tuk tuks can be used for shorter distances.
  6. Cultural Étiquettes: Avoid public displays of affection in rural areas and greet everyone with a smile and be polite. Dress modestly at temples (cover shoulders & knees) and remove shoes & hats before entering temples.
