The most breathtaking thing about Chilling Village is its view. Chilling at the top of an elevated vantage point offers breathtaking views of the nearby mountains and valleys. The transition from day to night is truly breathtaking, painting the sky in a kaleidoscope that bathes the landscape in a golden glow with little interference from artificial lights and makes Chilling one of the best places in Ladakh to spot the sky at night.

As darkness falls a celestial scene appears with stars, galaxies, and even the Milky Way making their appearance in the background. It symbolises a cool sanctuary of peace away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The gentle rhythm of the flowing river harmonises with birdsong, leaves rustling in the wind and creating an atmosphere of peace and relaxation. Life in Chilling flows at an unhurried pace, inviting visitors to embrace rural life. It serves as a gateway to many trekking spots in Ladakh including the famous Chadar Trek, crossing frozen streams and entering hidden canyons that open the way to explore the uncharted wilderness and capture the raw beauty of the region’s rugged terrain.

The journey from the start to Chilling Village is a pleasant mix of leisurely driving and adventure in a few seasons. Chilling at a distance of about 60 km from Leh, the capital of Ladakh, is mainly accessible via the Leh Road.

The road from Leh is a scenic trek with breathtaking views of the nearby mountains and hills. The drive takes about 2-3 hours depending on road conditions and weather conditions. During the hot season, travelling to Chiling is relatively easy.

You can opt for a taxi or drive along the scenic Leh-Kargil Highway (NH1) till you reach the confluence of the Indus and Janaskar rivers near Nimmu and then a detour to a narrow but groomed road the very cool so you -give directions to the city. Following the Zanskar Falls, the road offers breathtaking views and picture-perfect moments.

When summer hits, going Chilling is more demanding but equally fun. The famous Chadar walk starts from Chilling where trekkers walk along the frozen Zanskar River. To start this trek, you need to visit Leh first before driving to the starting point.

Local adventure tour operators usually organise the trips providing necessary equipment, experienced guides, and support throughout. Traversing snow-covered terrain in the Jamai river basin makes this trip an indelible experience.
