Eid Festival in India, where “Eid” is an Arabic word for “festival” or “feast”, is also very commonly used to mean “celebrations”.
There are two main Eid celebrations that people celebrate with a lot of enthusiasm and joy. One is “Eid-Al-Fitr” which means “breaking the fast” and the other one is “Eid-Al-Adha”, which translates as the “feast of sacrifice”.
The celebration begins with a special prayer at the mosque, followed by festive gatherings with family and friends. How is Eid Al Fitr Celebrated?
Eid Al Fitr is a time for celebration with family and loved ones. It is going to be a three-day period of rest and good tidings, and there are many virtues to the day.
The Muslim people are encouraged to do many things during the Eid Celebration in India. People follow their routines during the Ramadan month and follow these things:
- Pray Eid Prayer
- Wear your best clothes
- Sharing and exchanging gifts
- Make your Du’a and engage in Ibaadah and sunnah acts of worship.
Why is Eid Al Fitr Celebrated?
Eid celebration means the end of the significant month of Ramadan which is really special for Muslims. It is a very spiritual celebration, also recognizing Allah’s bestowal of Iman and endurance. Also, many people believe in giving charity, a donation of food that you can give before Eid prayer.
Eid 2025 will be celebrated on Monday, March 31st, 2025 depending on the sighting of the moon. Also, this marks the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar.
Unlike the Gregorian calendar that is being used today, the Islamic calendar operates on the lunar cycle. So, this relates and means that all significant days in the Islamic calendar appear to shift forward approximately 11 days each year.
So, the sighting of the moon will be determined and that would mean the end of the month-long period of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid. As with each day in the Islamic Calendar, the next day would begin after Maghrib prayer which is just after sunset of the same day. And, then everyone celebrates the beginning of Eid 2025 after the moon has been sighted.
