Daman and Diu have lately been a popular choice for honeymooners who want a break from the busy places to visit in India for honeymoon. Daman and Diu are among the top tourist places in Gujarat.

The history of Nani Daman dates back to the 16th century when the Portuguese came to India and ruled the region for 400 years. 

The river Damanganga flows through the city of Daman and divides it into two parts, Nani Daman (Little Daman) and Moti Daman (Big Daman) however, Nani Daman is bigger in area and has major tourist spots. The story of Nani Daman is as exceptional as the place itself.

  • Explore the Nani Daman Jetty

One of the most popular tourist spots is set up across the banks of the Damanganga River, the Nani Daman Jetty. There are many activities to do in Nani Daman Jetty, one can visit the Jetty garden, explore local food stalls, visit the estuary, Saint Jerome Fort, and the Church of Our Lady of the Sea.

  • Visit the Saint Jerome Fort

Saint Jerome Fort or the Nani Daman Fort is a magnanimous marvel of Portugal architecture. Built, in the city’s heart, this structure will transcend you into the Portuguese era. 

The fort holds great significance in the history of Nani Daman, as it is one of the main structures built in Daman.

The most attractive part of the fort is its gigantic main door and an ancient Jain temple within the complex. Another must-visit spot at Nani Daman Location is the Church of Our Lady of Sea. This is Daman’s most revered church; its intricately decorated interiors will give you a heavenly experience. 

  • Mirasol Lake Garden

For a fun-filled lively experience visiting the Mirasol Lake Garden is among the best things to do in Daman. There are many adventurous activities for children as well as adults, and the environment of the Mirasol Lake Garden adds tranquility and serenity to the visitors. 

Mirasol Lake Garden at Nani Daman in Daman and Diu has many surprises. 

Especially the artificial azure blue lake filled with various types of fish, adds a different dimension to the garden. People can enjoy paddle boating for a joyful experience. There is also a provision for a toy train, which is a big hit among kids.

Nani Daman’s location is such that it gets a huge supply of original seashells and oyster shells. Since the Portuguese era, seashell jewelry and home decor made of seashells have been popular. 

Various decorative items and accessories are available in Nani Daman and nearby areas, tourists often take these products as souvenirs for their loved ones. Ideal oyster artifacts are also quite popular in the local markets.

  •  Pay respects at Samudra Narayan Temple

The Samudra Narayan temple is said to have been built 300 years ago, it is well-known for its marvelous architecture and tranquil ambiance. Anyone visiting Nani Daman must make sure they visit this temple.

An interesting fact about this temple is, that it was built by Portuguese rulers, and not any Hindu kings, to appease the people of the Hindu community. 

The temple is dedicated to lord Shiva and also houses many other shrines of other Hindu gods and goddesses. Several other attractions near the temple are Vandhara Udyan, the Tribal Cultural Museum, Vanganga Lake Garden, Dudhni Lake, etc. 

  • Breathtaking views from the Lighthouse 

 The lighthouse tells the beautiful story of Nani Daman in its way. If you are interested in knowing the functionality of how the navigation and lighting system of the city works, then you must visit this place. 

The view from the lighthouse is breathtaking. To see the real Nani Daman, do visit the lighthouse. You can witness the beautiful sunset and learn about how signals are sent to ships from the lighthouse. Photographers find this to be an amazing spot for taking some stunning shots.

  •  Devka Beach

Devka Beach is the most splendid and enchanting Nani Daman Beach, it has crystal blue water and a vast shoreline. This sandy beach will rejuvenate your soul and fill your senses with freshness. 

Several water activities can be enjoyed at this beach like a banana boat ride, jet ski, etc. In the evening, visitors can relax and indulge in the sweet music of the musical fountain near the beach. 

Devka Beach is way more than just an ordinary beach. An amusement park built just next to the beach is like a cherry on the cake. There are many other spectacular beaches in the area like Nani Daman Beach.

Wondering what’s the best time to visit Nani Daman?

Winter season from October to February is the best time to visit Nani Daman, as the temperature is moderately cool and the water currents are mild making the conditions conducive for water sports and other activities like snorkeling, parasailing, etc. 

How to reach Nani Daman?

Daman and Diu are quite popular for their tourism and therefore have good connectivity and one can opt for any mode of transport to reach here. 

By Air: Daman Airport is not like a regular airport, it is used as a military base but there are regular flights to Daman from Mumbai and Baroda. Another way is by reaching Bhavnagar by flight and then reaching Daman via taxi or bus. 

By Train: Daman has a great railway network, it is well-connected to the main cities of India. The nearest station to Daman is in Vapi (12 Km away from Daman). Ahmedabad and Mumbai railway stations are two of the major and closest western railway stations to Daman. 

By Road: A well-organized bus system makes Daman easily accessible by road. Several state-run and privately operated buses are functional from major cities like Mumbai, Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad.
