To create this magnificent marvel, an architect selection process was conducted, attracting numerous architects from various cities. 

Ultimately, the architect from Delhi was chosen to oversee the construction of this stunning masterpiece. The grandeur of the structure is enhanced by its intricate carvings and the iconic Bhulbhulaiya maze. Pause for a moment to embrace the tranquility of the nearby Asfi Mosque. 2. Rumi Darwaza

Rumi Darwaza is one of the oldest and most famous structures in the city. The Rumi Darwaza in Lucknow has a history spanning 238 years, dating back to its construction in 1784. It was commissioned by the Nawab of Awadh at the time, Asaf-ud-Daula. Rumina Darwaza is just 3mins away from the Bara Imambara. You can see the back side of Rumina Darwaza from Bara Imambara. 

Crafted by the Persian architect Kifayatullah, the Rumi Darwaza was erected with the ambition to surpass Turkey’s Sublime Porte, the Bab-iHümayun, showcasing Nawab Asaf’s deep appreciation for art and culture. 

The architectural style of the Rumi Darwaza, blending Mughal, Roman, and Turkish influences, eventually gained renown as Awadhi or Lakhnawi architecture. Erected as the grand entrance to the new capital, Lucknow (then known as Old Lucknow), this 60-foot tall gateway symbolizes the splendor of Awadh, standing proudly as a graceful testament to its glorious past. A visit to Lucknow, the City of Nawabs, would be incomplete without experiencing the majestic presence of Rumi Darwaza. 3. Chhota  Imambara

Chhota Imambara is a short distance away from Rumi Darwaza, take a tuk-tuk from Rumi Darwaza which will charge you 10 Rs per person. Chhota Imambara also known as the Imambara of Hussainabad is one of the most attractive buildings in the old city of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. 

Constructed in 1838, the Chhota Imambara originally functioned as a gathering place for Shia Muslims. Commissioned by Muhammad Ali Shah, the third Nawab of Awadh, it was intended to be both his mausoleum and that of his mother, who lies buried beside him within this esteemed structure.

The Imambara is beautifully adorned with decorations and chandeliers at the time of special festivals, especially Muharram. This 19th-century building is also referred to as the ‘Palace of Lights’ by European visitors and writers because of the profuse decorations of the monument at specific events. This is Lucknow’s best sightseeing place in one day.

After having Peta puja start your half day by going to see the Iconic Clock tower. It was built in (1827 – 37) by Nawab Nasiruddiin Haider to mark the arrival of Sir George Couper, the lieutenant governor of North-West Province. It has been the tallest clock tower in India. It is said that this clock tower around that time it was costed 1.75 lakh rs and this four-faced clock structure is believed to have been inspired by the renowned clock tower in England, known as Big Ben.

There is a beautiful pond constructed beside the clock tower and sitting arrangements were made. One can spend some quality time sitting there and can enjoy the evening.

Near the clock tower, there is a picture gallery, it is a small place but is the topmost attraction and the best tourist place to visit in Lucknow. The Picture gallery showcases all the life-size portraits of regional rulers.

Constructed in the Barderie architectural style, this gallery boasts twelve doorways and served as a summer retreat at that time. This Picture Gallery is adjacent to the clock tower and you can enjoy the beautiful view from the picture gallery.

3. The Residency

The Residency is also known as the British Residency. The place served as residence to the British residence general who was also a representative in the court of Nawab. This place is also most turned into ruins but it is under the archeological department of India and they tried to preserve most of it. 

Once you enter the residency you can find so many areas inside it lawns, gardens, colonies, and houses. There are board signs everywhere about the places to know more. There is a museum inside the residency which you can go and check out, but you need to keep your bags inside the clock room, phones and photographs are allowed. Uttar Pradesh offers lots of things to do and one of the best things to do is to know more about the place and its history.

4. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Park

At a short distance from the British Residency, there is a most beautiful park in Lucknow known as Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Park it is located on Vipul Khand of Gomti Nagar. The state government constructed it under the leadership of CM Mayawati.

This Park is also dedicated to many other freedom fighters including Jyotiba Phule, Birsa Munda, Kanshi Ram, and Sree Narayana Guru. Although it is not as green, the park houses various statues and structures of great historical importance. The Park is near the Gomti River and the park is very well maintained. Spending quality time strolling along the park is one of the best things to do in Lucknow.
