You might wonder why it is known as Ravana Falls and what the connection is between the falls and King Ravana. To clear the confusion, let’s delve into the legend and history behind it.

The Falls got its name from the Legendary King of Lanka Ravana, a central figure in the Indian epic, the Ramayana. According to the legend, Ravana, the king of Lanka, abducted Princess Sita and kept her hidden in a cave behind this waterfall.

This cave, known as the Ravana Cave, is believed to be the place where Sita was held captive. At that time the cave was surrounded by the wilderness of nature. The waterfall cascading down the rocky terrain is said to be the very site where Ravana and his queen would come to bathe. It is also believed that Seetha Mata bathed in a pool that accumulated the water falling from this waterfall.

There is another hidden waterfall known as Kithal Ella Falls. According to local folklore, Kithal Ella Falls is believed to be the original Ravana Falls because it is located near the Ravana Cave. Locals in the area are convinced that Kithal Ella Falls is the true Ravana Ella Falls. Whatever might be the truth exploring these falls is one you should not miss.

I knew I wanted to travel in a group, as I had prior experiences of traveling in a group but wanted an organiser I could trust. Ladakh isn’t like other destinations wherein you need some instructions due to the high altitudes.
