The Goa Shri Shanta Durga temple was at Keloshi. In Keloshi Shri Shanta Durga temple in Goa known as Santeri devi and worshipped by that particular name. The History of Shanta Durga temple was built at Keloshi by a prosperous merchant, Anu Shenai Mone. With the presence of the Portuguese in Goa and the increasing missionary activities, the community was afraid for the safety of the temples and idols.

Hence the people worshipping Shri Shanta Durga Temple and Shree Mangesh, on a moonless night, leaving their homes and dwellings in the back and traversing over the Juari river. By Dandi, they attained the village Kavalem in Antruj village and selected a site with a stunning environment to establish the image of Shri Shanta Durga.

It is indeed unexpected that a new place can be observed with all of the devotees for the induction of Shri Shanta Durga with exactly the same panoramic splendour as available at Keloshi. The purchaser deity of Shree Mangesh was established in Priyol in Ponda Taluka. The place is now called Mangeshi. Antruj became too small an area to deal with all the G.S.B families who went there to break out the Portuguese harassment.

They naturally dispersed in all directions but usually appeared to the temples as a link between them. Their voluntary contributions and later active custom of Peshwas stepped forward and enhanced the temples.

There is some chaos regarding the exact date of the movement of those deities to a new location. However, according to Portuguese statistics, the deities were shifted sometime between 14 January 1566 and 29 November 1566.
