In the year 1969, an island off the coast of the Bay of Bengal called Sriharikota was chosen as a launch centre.
At present, India has three launch centres, one in Kerala, the second one in Andhra Pradesh, and the third one in Odisha.
Sriharikota in Odisha is considered the best launch site due to its close proximity to the equator.
On July 14th, 2023, Chandrayaan 3 was launched at 2:35 pm from the Sriharikota launch site. The objective of the Chandrayaan 3 is to safely land on the moon and collect information.
Now curious people might want to visit the launch sites and must be wondering whether they can see it. Well, the good news is that you can see it, as there are guided tours for students, academicians, and others to create awareness among the general public about space technology and its operations.
To visit the Satish Dhawan launch site, you need to submit a request online through the ISRO’s website. These requests are reviewed, and post-approval, they provide detailed information and guidelines.
