Thiruvananthapuram Gets Its First Floating Bridge

The goal is to make water sports more accessible to locals and tourists, preventing them from travelling to other destinations like Goa and Thailand. The minister aims to create job opportunities and enhance tourism in Kerala.

The floating bridge, a collaboration between various tourism organisations,  is 100 meters long and 3 meters wide. It includes a viewing platform at the tail end, accommodating up to 300 visitors at a time. The bridge operates from 11 AM to 6 PM and ensures visitor safety with safety boats, life jackets, and vigilant lifeguards. 

Built from about 1,400 high-quality plastic blocks, the bridge offers water sports activities like banana boat rides, jet skiing, speed boating, jet attacks, and ATV rides. Visitors can enjoy these activities for a fee of Rs 120 for a 20-minute experience.

Local officials, including MLA V Joy, Varkala Municipality Chairman KM Laji, and others attended the opening ceremony. 

The initiative not only promises a unique experience for tourists but also aims to significantly contribute to the development of tourism in Varkala and nearby areas. The broader plan includes making Varkala an international destination, with a master plan for tourism development set for 2024.
