Digi Yatra, which is based on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) offers a plethora of features designed to simplify the travel journey for passengers like quick check-ins and boarding processes while enhancing security and operational efficiencies like biometric authentication, digital identities, and safe data sharing. By replacing physical documents with biometric authentication, the program saves time and enhances security.
Digi Yatra ensures passenger data security by encrypting information shared through its app. To register, passengers provide their details via Aadhaar-based validation and a self-image capture. Upon scanning their boarding pass, which is linked to the Facial Recognition Technology, credentials are shared with the airport. At the e-gate, passengers scan their boarding pass barcode, and Facial Recognition Technology confirms their identity.
With the rising utilization of such advanced technology, concerns by the people have also been raised regarding data privacy and to address such concerns, Kadhakbhavi (CEO of Digi Yatra) issued a statement reassuring the public. In the statement, Kadhakbhavi emphasized that Digi Yatra only collects the necessary information, and the data is stored only in the user’s device which is controllable by the passenger only. Additionally, Kadhakbhavi highlighted that the program strictly adheres to privacy regulations and guidelines, with stringent measures in place to protect individuals’ personal information.
Digi Yatra has already been successfully implemented in key cities such as Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Varanasi, Pune, Goa, Vijayawada, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, and Mangalore, revolutionizing the air travel experience for passengers.
Building on this success, the initiative is now set to expand its reach to an additional 14 cities across India. The cities that are next to adopt Digi Yatra are Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kochi, Patna, Indore, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Srinagar, Coimbatore, and Amritsar.
As Digi Yatra continues to expand its reach, the program defines a better vision for the future of air travel in India. By encouraging greater efficiency, convenience, and security, Digi Yatra sets a new standard for passenger experience and airport operations nationwide.
The Digi Yatra Foundation, which is a non-profit organization, is heading this initiative along with multiple stakeholders— Airport Authority of India (AAI), Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL), Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (HIAL), and Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL).
Looking ahead, stakeholders anticipate further advancements in digitalization within the aviation industry. As more airports come onboard and additional features are introduced, the program will redefine the way people travel by air, making it more accessible, efficient, and enjoyable than ever before.
