We are all aware that there has been a little unrest in the country because of the ongoing farmer’s protest, and all the travel junkies are wondering whether these protests will impact their travel plans or if will they have to cancel their trips and stay back home on the weekend.

Don’t worry let us explain the ongoing situation, and how it will impact your travel plans.

Why are the farmers protesting?

After the announcement of the interim budget, the farmers have been triggered and are protesting against the government with their demands for a guaranteed MSP(The cost at which the government purchases crops from farmers) and for waivers of debts.
  • They want the MSP to be fixed at 50% higher than the cost of production of any crop.
  • Compensation for the farmers who died during the 2020-2021 protests.
  • Waiver of debts.

To push the government to address their issue, thousands of farmers are marching in tractors and trucks towards Delhi to get the government to meet their demands.

On Tuesday, 12th February, Delhi police fired tear gas to prevent the farmers from entering Delhi, which is currently a fortress, reviving the memories of the protest that took place two years ago and lasted for 16 months.

Previously, when the farmers’ protest took place, the government agreed to their demands, let’s see whether the government will address the issue or let the farmers protest. What do you think?

Now the real question, that is bothering you is whether these protests will affect your travel plans or not, especially because most of the trips to Himachal and Uttarakhand start from the National Capital.

At present, the security of the National Capital has been heightened, Red Fort has been closed, and roads have multi-layered barricading, concrete blocks, container walls, and iron nails at border points.

Even though the borders have been closed, there are no issues reported with travelling. Suppose you are planning to go to Manali this weekend and take the bus from either Majnu Ka Tila or ISBT Kashmiri Gate, then you can do it and do everything as planned.

As of now, people are travelling to the hill stations without facing any problems, however, there can be delays because of the heightened tensions but besides that, there are no issues as such for travelling via road.

So Yay! Good News for all of you. Now go pack your bags, bring that smile back on your face, and get ready for a crazy weekend.
