Mahavir Jayanti is one of the most important festivals among the Jain community and is celebrated with so much happiness in India and across the world. It determines the birth of Lord Mahavira and as per Jain mythology, Lord Mahavira is the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism.

Lord Mahavira took birth on the 13th day of the waxing moon on the Chaitra month (Hindu calendar) in Kundalagrama (now Kundalpur) in Bihar, a few kilometers away from Patna. Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated to champion the cause of peace and harmony and also to spread the Lord Mahavir teachings.

There is a famous procession carried out in the form of “rath yatra”. The idol of Lord Mahavira is neatly placed on the top and Jain temples are decorated with flags and they are offered food and clothes to the needy people.

In Ladakh, find the perfect blend of culture, adventure, and serenity. December last year I decided that my next trip would be Ladakh but didn’t know how to go about it. I knew I wanted to travel in a group, as I had prior experiences of traveling in a group but wanted an organiser I could trust.
