While most beautiful restaurants only look good in sunny weather, Merah Putih Bali becomes even more special when it rains. The architect, Charlie Hearn, designed a unique fabric ceiling that lets sunlight in and guides rainwater to flow down special decorative columns throughout the dining room. They even added colourful lights in these columns to make the falling water look like indoor waterfalls.

hen it rains, instead of being a problem, it becomes a show! Guests love watching the natural display. The best part? They collect this rainwater and clean it with a special system. It becomes so pure that the staff uses it for washing vegetables and even drinking, though they still serve bottled water to customers.

This is a great example of working with nature instead of fighting against it, especially during Bali’s rainy season.

Walking through the simple, modern entrance, you will find yourself in an elegant, cosy lounge area. It’s decorated with soft grey couches, unique wooden lights hanging from above, and a fancy bar made of marble and granite. Music plays gently through hidden speakers, adding to the stylish atmosphere.

The owner, Jasper Manifold, can often be found at the bar having his daily cappuccino before the evening rush begins.

Don’t forget to save room for something sweet – the Merah Putih dessert menu changes seasonally to showcase the best local ingredients.

In Ladakh, find the perfect blend of culture, adventure, and serenity. December last year I decided that my next trip would be Ladakh but didn’t know how to go about it. I knew I wanted to travel in a group, as I had prior experiences of traveling in a group but wanted an organiser I could trust. Ladakh isn’t like other destinations wherein you need some instructions due to the high altitudes.
