The Notting Hill Carnival in London started in the 1960s. Many people from the Caribbean had moved to London, and they wanted to celebrate their culture. Claudia Jones, a Trinidadian journalist and activist, helped start the first indoor Caribbean carnival in 1959. This event led to the outdoor Notting Hill Carnival in 1966. The carnival began as a small event but quickly grew.
