When we talk about the tallest skyscraper in the world, we often think of Burj Khalifa. But Jeddah Skyscraper is all set to take this title from the iconic Burj Khalifa.

About Burj Khalifa

blog-images
Standing at 828 meters (2,716 feet 6 inches), the Burj Khalifa is more than twice as tall as the Empire State Building and nearly three times the height of the Eiffel Tower.

It also holds some of the best records like having the tallest elevator in a building, which goes up to 504 meters (1,654 feet), the most floors in a building, totalling 163, and the highest restaurant from ground level, situated at 441.3 meters (1,447 feet 10 inches).

However, its title might soon be snatched by a new skyscraper in the Middle East of Saudi Arabia–Jeddah Tower

Jeddah Skyscraper: The Tallest Skyscraper in the World

Jeddah, located next to the Red Sea, is the second-largest city in the country and is known for landmarks like the Penang Floating Mosque and the historic Al Balad district.

This is the city where the Jeddah Tower is being built. It is planned to reach a height of 1,000 meters (3,281 feet). This will make it the Tallest Skyscraper In the World and the world’s first building to be 1- kilometre tall, standing 170 meters taller than the Burj Khalifa.

The architect who designed the Burj Khalifa, Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill are designing the Jeddah Skyscraper. By the end of 2016, 38 floors had been completed, including the elevator shafts and stairwells, and had reached the 49th floor. This tower is expected to reach 3,281 feet and it will be completed in the next 4-5 years, making it nearly eleven times taller than the Statue of Liberty.

The architects say the design reflects Saudi Arabia’s culture and symbolises the kingdom’s future growth.

According to reports, construction on the Jeddah skyscraper began in 2013 but was interrupted, especially in 2018 due to issues within the Binladin Group, the project’s contractor. The COVID-19 pandemic caused further delays. However, in September 2023, it was reported that construction had resumed.

By the time construction paused, about one-third of Jeddah Tower was completed. Once finished, the tower will be a mixed-use complex with residential, commercial, and office spaces. Plans also include the world’s tallest observation deck, a large outdoor balcony initially designed as a helipad, and a Four Seasons hotel.

In Ladakh, find the perfect blend of culture, adventure, and serenity. December last year I decided that my next trip would be Ladakh but didn’t know how to go about it. I knew I wanted to travel in a group, as I had prior experiences of traveling in a group but wanted an organiser I could trust. Ladakh isn’t like other destinations wherein you need some instructions due to the high altitudes.
