The Central stadium of Almaty is the largest in the country and is currently used for football matches, and also serves as a home stadium for the Kazakhstan National Football Team.
In 1958, the Central Stadium of Almaty was built for 30000 seats and was the largest at that time. In the year 1997, the stadium underwent reconstruction for the II Central Asian Games, the opening of which was attended by the IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch and other important officials. A total of 16 countries participated in the Games.
Over a period of time, the Almaty Central Stadium has hosted several national league football matches and is the stamping ground for the FC Kairat, the national Football team of Kazakhstan.
