Maa Annapurna is the Goddess of Food and Nourishment. She is a manifestation of Goddess Parvati. In Hinduism worship and offering of food are highly praised. 

Besides being a place for many devotees, Annapurna Temple is one of Indore’s tourist spots. It is at a distance of 6 km from Indore Junction. 

The Temple was constructed in the 9th century and was rebuilt in 1959 by Mahamandaleshwar Swami Prabanandagirimharaj. The entrance stood on four elephants, which was erected in 1975.

This temple is spread across 2 acres and resembles the famous Meenakshi Temple of Madurai. The outside of the temple walls is picturized with images of gods and their legendaries, making it one of the best places to visit in Indore.

How to reach Annapurna Temple Indore?

By Air – 

How to reach Annapurna Temple by air is not a question anymore for international tourists. The nearest airport to the temple is Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar International Airport. There are domestic flights available and international flights open to tourists. 

Government and Private Airline Services are available from Indore to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. 

The Annapurna Temple is at a distance of 8.4 km from the international airport. You can commute by very convenient cab service or by local bus from the airport.  

By Rail – 

Indore Railway Station is well-connected to other places in the country. The nearest railway station is Lomanya Nagar Railway Station at a distance of 2 km from Annapurna Temple. 

By Road – 

You can also travel by road Bus and cab services are available, you can also drive by your vehicle or opt for a rickshaw. The roads are well connected to the other parts of the city.

Annapurna Temple Indore History

According to Maa Annapurna Temple history, this temple was originally built in the 9th Century and was renovated and rebuilt in 1959 by Mahamandaleshwar Swami Prabanandagirimharaj. The entrance of the Annapurna temple is constructed on the back of four life-sized elephants. It was erected in 1975. The temple’s main entrance door is built following Southern Indian Architecture on the back of four large elephants.

Spread across 2 km this temple resembles the Meenakshi Temple of Madurai. It is a blend of Indo-Aryan and Dravidian architectural styles. The height of the Annapurna temple is more than 100 feet. The height of Annapurna Mata is around 3 feet tall. The Annapurna Temple Indore is an architectural marvel of Aryan-Dravidian architecture.

The entrance of Shree Annapurna Temple Indore is constructed in accordance with the southern India Architecture on the back of four elephants. Inside the temple, you would see the idols of Maa Annapurna, Maa Kali, and Maa Saraswati carved from white marble. 

The Annapurna temple is built with Makrana Marble. Craftsmen of Rajasthan who built the Annapurna temple at Trimbakeshwar Nashik of Maharashtra. On the pillars, different gods and goddesses are sculptured. There are also 64 Yoginis carved out on the pillars of Annapurna Temple. The temple walls and pillars are carved with different sculptures and designs. Outside Annapurna temple, has a temple of Lord Shiv and Kaalbharav. At the entrance of the temple, they have a beautiful sculpture of Shree Krishna and Radha Rani. 

The temple also has a cowshed and Vedshala (An observatory where you study stars in the sky).

Best Time To Visit Annapurna Temple Indore

The best time to visit Annapurna Temple is during Navaratri and Annapurna Jayanti. These two festivals are celebrated with huge pomp and grandeur. 

The Annapurna Temple opens at 6 am and closes by 11 pm every day.

1. Rajwada Palace –

One of the most famous places to visit near Annapurna Temple for tourist attractions in Indore is Rajwada Palace. It is one of the oldest palaces in Indore. It was built by Malhar Rao Holkar, the founder of the Holkar Dynasty in the year 1747 A.D. The Palace is 4.5 km far from the Annapurna Temple.

2. Kamla Nehru Prani Sangrahalaya –

The largest Zoological garden in Indore is Kamla Nehru Prani Sangrahalaya. The Zoo has bred White Tiger, White peacock, Himalayan Bear, etc. The Zoo is built on 17 acres of land. The zoo is at a distance of 6.5 km from the Annapurna Temple. It is one of the famous places to visit near Annapurna Temple.

3. Lal Baug Palace –

Another Palace was built by the Holkar Dynasty. It is also known as Red Garden Palace. It is one of the finest examples of European-style architecture in India. The palace premises have a museum that has a collection of varioartifactscts, including weapons, sculptures, antique coins, textiles, and rare paintings. The Lal Baug palace is at a distance of 2.9 Km from the Annapurna Temple Indore.

4. Chappan Bazaar

Chappan Bazaar is at a distance of 8.2 km from Annapurna Temple. Also known as Chappan Dukan it is a food and shopping scene. Chappan Dukaan accommodates 56 food shops within a distance of approximately 200 meters, situated in the upscale Palasia area of Indore.

5. Lotus Lake

There is a small lake of lotus near the temple. You can hang out there as well. It is at a walking distance of 0.5 km from the Annapurna temple.

This restaurant is within walking distance from Annapurna Temple. The Restaurant has a variety of cuisines available, from Chinese to south Indian. They have a variety of options for vegetarian tourists.

2. Apna Sweets –

Your trip might not be fulfilled without having some Indori delicacy. They have multiple cuisines to offer, but their must-try food is Thali. They have 3 types of ‘sabzi’, sweet for a side dish, raita, roti, and rice. It is fulfilling. 

Don’t forget your ‘Gajak’ (Indori Sweet) from their shop.

3. KHORAK Restaurant –

KHORAK Restaurant is an open-air restaurant. You can also enjoy music as live performances are happening. Indori delicacies including Sev Tamatar, Sev Masala, and Sev Malai are not to be missed while visiting this restaurant. 

4. Pakwan Thali –

Pakwan Thali is another place for Indori delicacy. Their recommended dish is Dal Baafle Thaali. It is a vegetarian restaurant.
