Founded in the year 1977, the State Archaeology Museum officially opened to the public in 1996. Goa State Museum initially started with a small unit of the Department of Archives in 1973.

With its high-quality collection of artefacts from the prehistoric and late medieval Portuguese era, the museum is a must-visit for history fanatics. Located near the Convent and Church of St. Francis of Assisi, this museum was once a historic Franciscan Monastery.
