Delhi To Have One Card For Both Buses And Metro Rides

In the future, additional transit options will be seamlessly incorporated to enhance convenience further. The transport department will make NCMC-compliant cards available to the public.

This initiative goes beyond simply electronically integrating the public transport payment system; it also serves as a step towards digitalisation and the potential unification of various transit operators on a single platform in the future.

The initial phase of the project will involve deploying electronic ticketing machines (ETMs) for 7,500 buses and offering smart NCMC cards for ticket purchases. The ultimate goal is to enable NCMC cards for offline payments across multiple transit modes. 

Once completed, this integrated platform will seamlessly connect various forms of transportation, including buses and the metro, and may eventually expand to include autos and cabs, providing commuters with a more convenient travel experience. 

Moreover, the ETMs will also issue pink tickets, allowing women to travel for free. Delhi’s extensive bus network, consisting of 7,000 DTC and DIMTS buses, serves an average of 3.3 million passengers daily, making it the most widely used form of public transportation in the city. 

The introduction of digital ticketing aligns with the route rationalisation study conducted by the transport department, providing valuable insights into the precise number of people travelling on specific routes at any given time.
