The Leh Ladakh government, along with the Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh, the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council of Leh and the Tourism department, is organising the ‘Frozen Lake Marathon’ on February 20 2023, on the serene and the tranquil Pangong Lake.
The 21 kilometres marathon, which will start from Lukung and end in the Maan Village, is nicknamed the ‘The Last Run’. The marathon owes its name to the aim of creating awareness and highlighting the issue of climate change and Global Warming.
It has been given this name to shed light on the fact that this might be the last time an event like this will be held on Pangong lake since in the coming future, the glaciers might melt and cease to exist.
