A Weekend of Extraordinary Andaman Guinness World Records

The Largest Underwater Flag India

On May 2, 2026, a team of 223 divers unfurled the “largest underwater flag in India” record at Radhanagar Beach, Swaraj Dweep. The Indian tricolour measured 60 by 40 meters and was held beneath the surface in the waters off Havelock Island.

The record attempt was a joint operation involving the Andaman and Nicobar Police, the Indian Navy, and private scuba operators; unified effort to promote the islands.

The Tallest Underwater Human Stack Andaman

The following day, on May 3, a team of 14 divers achieved the “Tallest Underwater Human Stack Andaman” record at the Lighthouse Dive Site. Lieutenant Governor DK Joshi was part of the team. The divers formed an underwater human pyramid record of 22.3 meters and held the formation for three minutes. The two records together mark a push to position the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a leading adventure tourism destination.

How the Guinness World Records Boost Andaman's Global Appeal

The two Guinness World Records are part of a broader push to grow Andaman adventure tourism and put the islands on the international map, and the official recognition certified by Guinness World Records carries real weight.

Swaraj Dweep was not a random pick for these records. Already known as one of the best places for scuba diving in Swaraj Dweep, the island provides the right setting for high-skill underwater events and gives the records context beyond the numbers.

The achievements are also good news for Andaman tourism overall. They signal that the islands can support professionally organised, internationally certified events, which matters to serious divers and first-time visitors alike.

For travelers already considering a trip, Andaman tour packages cover the key sites across the islands, including Swaraj Dweep where both records were set.

For those looking to explore beyond Havelock, an Andaman tour with Havelock and Neil Islands covers more of the archipelago at a comfortable pace.

The tourism department has indicated this is a starting point, with plans to build on the momentum while maintaining sustainable practices to protect the island's marine environment.
