Microsoft Outage, Affecting Air Travel Globally! Expect Cancellations And Delays!

CrowdStrike, a cyber-security company, has admitted that the problem was caused by an update to their antivirus software, which is meant to protect computers using Microsoft Windows. Microsoft is now working to fix the remaining effects of the outage. As the situation continues, travellers should expect ongoing delays and possible flight cancellations.

What Is The Reason For Microsoft Outage?

CrowdStrike’s CEO, George Kurtz, explained that the problem came from a flaw in their latest software update. While the exact cause hasn’t been fully explained. 

“This is not a security incident or cyber-attack”. 

“The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed”. He said. 

When Can We Expect A Resolution?

The recovery process, however, is not straightforward. While some systems can be fixed quickly, others may take hours or even longer to restore. 

The main challenge is that affected computers need to be manually restarted in safe mode. This requirement is creating significant work for IT departments in organizations worldwide.

Microsoft Outage – Impact On Travel

Affected Airports: 

• UK airports faced significant delays, long queues were seen at London’s Stansted and Gatwick airports. British Airways cancelled multiple flights.
• United, Delta, and American Airlines grounded many flights worldwide. These disruptions lasted for most of Friday. 
• Virgin Australia and Jetstar had to delay or cancel flights. 
• Microsoft outage was not limited to above countries. As the airports in Tokyo, Amsterdam, and Delhi also reported disruptions. 

In India, several major airlines faced significant disruptions due to Microsoft outage. 

Three prominent Indian airlines that were hit by the technical issue:

• IndiGo
• Akasa
• SpiceJet

As the main problem affected their check-in systems, causing delays and difficulties for passengers trying to board their flights. This proves that the Microsoft outage has impacted air travel globally. Travellers using these airlines are likely to experience longer wait times and potential flight delays until the glitch is totally resolved.
