On an Indian tour, when exploring the northern regions, ensure you spend a few days in this vibrant city, vigorously working towards modernity while maintaining its cultural charm. Today, let’s gain deeper insights into the past of an ancient site boasting a royal past; Nana Rao Park Kanpur.
The latest construction of the Nana Rao Park Kanpur was done using public money and was established in place of the Memorial Well Garden from its era.
Nana Rao Peshwa played a crucial role in Nana Rao Park Kanpur history and was a key figure in India’s fight for independence, leading the rebellion in Kanpur during the 1857 Independence War.
He orchestrated the Bibighar massacre, targeting and eliminating all British individuals who managed to flee the horrific Massacre Ghat incident. However, the Bibighar massacre also resulted in the deaths of more than 200 British families.
Another important aspect of Nana Rao Park Kanpur history is the ‘Boodha Bargad’ or ‘The Old Banyan Tree’. A centuries-old banyan tree stood near the well, where freedom fighters were executed.
This tree held immense significance in Nana Rao Park Kanpur history. It was the site where 144 Indian individuals were executed during the Rebellion of 1857 in India.
Although the tree has since been lost, a stone monument still exists and commemorates the event with the names and information of those executed.
