The history of Almaty National Library dates back to the year 1931, when the library was founded in March, while there was a significant transformation in the Soviet Union. The National Library in Almaty was initially named after Alexander Pushkin when the library featured a modest collection of books and some manuscripts.

After several decades, the National Library Republic of Kazakhstan, began expanding and embraced its role as a national institution that focused on preserving Kazakh culture and history.

The National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan is centrally located and can easily be accessed via public transport or private vehicles.

  • Buses: If you are planning to travel via bus, you can look for bus numbers 3, 57, 65, 66,79,99,118,120,128. Besides that, you can also go for trolleybuses 11, 19, and 25.
  • Subway: The nearest subway station is the Abay Station, which is quite a convenient way to reach the National Library of Kazakhstan, which is just a short walk from the subway station.
  • Taxi: You can resort to apps like Yandex, which provides door-to-door services, and it is not very expensive. The fares will depend on the distance that you need to cover, but taking a cab saves you from a lot of hassle.

1. Almaty Central Mosque

Head to Almaty Central Mosque, which is one of the most beautiful pieces of architecture you might come across in Kazakhstan. Built in the year 1999, the mosque can be spotted from a distance, and will surprise you with its intricate and detailed architecture and beautiful patterns painted on the walls, including the verses from the holy book of Muslims, the Quran. It is one of the best tourist attractions near the Library in Almaty, located at a distance of approximately 3.8 km from the National Library in Almaty.

2. Almaty Television Tower

The Almaty Television Tower, popularly known as the Kok Tobe TV Tower is a popular landmark in Almaty with a towering height of 372 meters. This iconic tower is made to withstand earthquakes with a magnitude of 10. The Almaty TV Tower does not give access to the public but can be witnessed from the Kok Tobe Hill. It is the largest free-standing structure in the country, located just 15 minutes away from the National Library Republic of Kazakhstan.

3. Memorial of Glory

The Memorial of Glory, also known as the 28 Panfilov Guardsmen Park, is not only a peaceful place with plenty of greens but a place that tells you the tale of the bravery and sacrifice of the 28 guardsmen. These heroic soldiers stood their ground to protect Moscow during World War II. The park has been built to honour the sacrifice of these heroes and is located quite close to the National Library of Kazakhstan.
