On March 28, 2026, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inaugurated the first phase of Noida International Airport at Jewar in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, a project that marks a turning point in India's aviation growth. The Noida International Airport inauguration took place after PM Modi completed a walkthrough of the newly built terminal building.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, Governor Anandiben Patel, and other senior leaders were present at the ceremony.
Commercial flight services, however, are expected to begin later, with post-inauguration reports indicating a likely launch window of 45–60 days. Travellers should check the airport website and airline booking systems for confirmed schedules.
Why Noida International Airport Matters
The Jewar Airport inauguration in 2026 is not just a ribbon-cutting moment. Developed under a Public-Private Partnership model, this is one of the most significant greenfield airport projects India has seen in recent years. With Phase I inaugurated and commercial services expected to begin in the coming weeks, this infrastructure is ready to handle the rising demand for travelers as the region grows.
For Western UP districts, including Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad, this airport opens up direct access to domestic and international travel that was not this convenient before.
Noida International Airport: Key Highlights
- Total investment stands at ₹11,200 crore, developed under a Public-Private Partnership model
- Starts with a passenger capacity of 12 million per year, with room to grow up to 70 million
- The runway runs 3,900 metres, long enough to handle wide-body aircraft
- Cargo operations can take on 2.5 lakh metric tonnes a year, going up to 18 lakh metric tonnes over time
- Foundation for a 40-acre MRO facility was laid on the same day as the inauguration
- Built to run as a net-zero emissions facility from the ground up
- Fully equipped for round-the-clock operations regardless of weather conditions
Noida International Airport and Indira Gandhi International Airport are built to work together to give Delhi NCR the kind of combined aviation capacity that puts the region alongside some of the busiest travel hubs in the world.
The Prime Minister described the inauguration as a new milestone for the Viksit UP, Viksit Bharat campaign. He noted that Uttar Pradesh now figures among the states with the most international airports in India, adding that Jewar Airport has every potential to become a marker of the state's growth story.
He added that the country is working toward handling its own maintenance and repair needs, and the 40-acre MRO facility at Jewar is part of that push.
The architecture of the terminal bridges Indian heritage with contemporary design in a way that feels intentional rather than decorative. The airport is also planned to run on a net-zero emissions model, a commitment that sets it apart from most infrastructure projects of this scale in the country.
