Every now and then, we often look for peace and quiet so that all we can hear is the sound of our heart beating, but did you know that the quietest place in the world allows you to hear your blood through your veins?

Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? Well, if you don’t know, you will be stunned to know the details about the World’s Quietest Place, which is an absolutely scary place for normal people. With its headquarters located in Redmond, Washington, the place has made its way to the Guinness Book of World Records.

History of The Quietest Place In The World

The World’s Quietest Place was built by Microsoft in the year 2015. The place was basically an anechoic chamber, which is a room designed to stop reflections of electromagnetic waves as well as sound waves.

At present, this anechoic chamber has made way to the Guinness Book Of World Records as the quietest place in the world.

The interesting thing about this room is that only a few people have survived staying there, but no one could stay for more than 45 minutes.

This place is scarier than the Island of the Dead Dolls, where dead decaying dolls suddenly started appearing on trees in Mexico.

Competitor Of The Quietest Place In The World

Another Anechoic room is hoping to win the title of the quietest place in the world, which was initially the quietest area in the world before Microsoft broke its record in 2015.

The room is located in the Orfield Laboratories in Minnesota, United States, and was designed by the scientist Steven J Orfield.

Steven Orfield, who was the founder of the lab, said, “We challenge people to sit in the chamber in the dark – one person stayed in there for 45 minutes. When it’s quiet, ears will adapt. The quieter the room, the more things you hear. You’ll hear your heart beating, sometimes, you can hear your lungs, hear your stomach gurgling loudly. In the anechoic chamber, you become the sound.

In his interview with the New York Times, Orfield told the media that he has applied for his anechoic room to get the title back and is apparently waiting for a response from the Guinness Book Of World Records’ Management team.

The Guinness Book representative confirmed his application and stated that the team is in the process of evaluating his evidence and their review criteria.

What Goes Inside The Quietest Place In The World?

The fascinating part about the quietest area in the world is that the sound here is -9.4 dBA, which means that it will allow you to hear not only the sound of your heart but also your blood flowing, the creaking of your bones, turning heads and the deafening sound of silence that might drive you crazy.

The purpose of the anechoic chamber is to eliminate all sounds, which means that there is no external sound or disturbances, so the only sound you can expect is that coming from inside of you, allowing you to hear the endless sound of your body.

Product Testing At The Quietest Area In The World

As scary as it may sound, the room is not there for torturing people, but several companies test their products here in the room to find out how loud their product is. Besides that, NASA has also spent their astronauts adapting themselves to the silence.

The room is a very disorienting place, and one has trouble adapting to the room, and they even have trouble standing.

How you orient yourself is through sounds you hear when you walk. In the anechoic chamber, you don’t have any cues,” Orfield stated. “You take away the perceptual cues that allow you to balance and manoeuvre. If you’re in there for half an hour, you have to be in a chair.

I did my first solo trip in India with WanderOn. Initially I was sceptical about their Meghalaya-Kaziranga trip as I didn't have any prior experience with them but the team assured me that it's going to be one of the best experiences of my life.

In Ladakh, find the perfect blend of culture, adventure, and serenity. December last year I decided that my next trip would be Ladakh but didn’t know how to go about it. I knew I wanted to travel in a group, as I had prior experiences of traveling in a group but wanted an organiser I could trust. Ladakh isn’t like other destinations wherein you need some instructions due to the high altitudes.
