This story of exploration and scientific curiosity unfolded in the northeastern state of Meghalaya. In March 2018, a team of speleologists and caves took up a daring expedition to explore the uncharted territories of the region as organized by Meghalaya Adventureurs’ Association.

The initial exploration and documentation of the Krem Puri Caves, began in the Jaintia hills, as this region is well-known for its rich karst landscape. This landscape and the formations inside them have been shaped over a million years, by the water that seeps down in the ground.

As the expedition team began the journey through the dense forest, rugged terrain, and subterranean passages, they faced a number of challenges.

As they ventured deeper into the forest, they stumbled upon a hidden marvel – the Krem Puri caves, a sandstone cave that would soon earn a mark on the world map for being one of a kind.

After 25 days of exploring the Krem Puri cave system, the group was in awe of its grand structure with sandstone walls, adorned with beautiful formations sculpted by nature over millions of years, creating a mesmerizing spectacle.
