It was built quickly in just eight months, from September 2011 to April 2012, for the Eurovision Song Contest. This was a big challenge due to its location on a windy peninsula by the Caspian Sea. Over 7,000 tonnes of steel was used in the construction, and it was delivered from Istanbul. The building is made of three parts that were built separately and put together.
The outside of the building is covered in a folded membrane with over 80,000 LED lights, which makes it glow at night. The roof and walls use special materials for sound and weather protection, ensuring the hall is comfortable and looks impressive.
