History Of Goa Cabo De Rama Fort

Goa Cabo de Rama Fort has glimpsed multiple historic battles. The fort was constructed by using nearby Sonda rulers who reached from neighbouring Karnataka, simply across Goa’s border, and known as “Rama Kila”. The fort, nevertheless, was taken over by Portuguese rulers in 1763, and “Rama Kila” turned its name and was renamed “Cabo De Rama”.

The Portuguese made the Raja of Sonda surrender his region. It was done because Hindu and Portuguese rulers decided to keep safe Hindu rulers from Hyder Ali of Mysore. Several different powers tried to rule the Goa Cabo De Rama Fort earlier but the Portuguese ultimately took full leadership in 1763.

Portuguese rulers revived the fort, preparing it with 21 guns and putting it in army barracks, followed by a commander’s region and a chapel. When the fort came into British power within the following few decades, they used it as a prison from 1935 to 1955.
