2. Closed immigration offices. A visa extension needs to be finished before 24 December, because the offices stay shut through 27 December.
3. Fixed menus. Many venues serve a set menu or buffet. Vegetarian travellers should confirm their options when booking.
4. Prices marked ++. Tax and service are added to the bill, and brunches are priced with or without alcohol. Non-drinkers can ask for the food-only rate.

• Gili Trawangan has no motor vehicles, so horse carts and bicycles take over, and ride-hailing apps are unreliable on Nusa Penida, so ask your hotel to book a driver. Ferries can run late in wet-season weather, so leave a few hours between a ferry and any long road transfer.

Late December is Bali’s busiest and most expensive period, and the days between Christmas and New Year in Bali are the peak. Flights, hotels and drivers all cost the most then, so book early.
