About Kolar

Kolar is a city located in southeastern Karnataka, southern India, situated on the Karnataka Plateau about 55 km northeast of Bengaluru (Bangalore). It lies in a dry zone characterized by scrub vegetation, favorable for sheep being looked after in the surrounding regions.

Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) gained fame with the release of the popular Indian film “KGF: Chapter 1” and its sequel “KGF: Chapter 2”. These films are set against the backdrop of the gold mining region of Kolar.

The city’s economy is supported by industries producing woolen blankets, leather goods, pencils, and hand-loomed silk and cotton fabrics. Kolar is served by the Kolar District Railway, part of the Southern Railway’s loop line from Bengaluru, and is northwest of the historically significant Kolar Gold Fields.
