The Diu Museum history is a chronicle of Diu’s past, first as a part of the princely state of Gujarat, and then as a Portuguese colony. This old St. Thomas Church, built in 1598, abandoned for many years, was converted into a unique museum of artefacts in 1998, to house several artifacts and antique pieces inscriptions on the stone by the ancient rulers, magnificent wooden carvings, idols, shadow-clocks and various other vital artifacts.
A majority of these have been collected from the excavations from different sites and exhibited for the general public which makes it the most visited and among the best museums in Diu. Like other historical places in India these artifacts and the antique items reveal the Diu Museum history and the past scenario of Diu when it was under the rule of the Portuguese.
