Step into the history of Divar Island, a small island of Divar that was once populated by the people of Old Goa. They vacated this island when a dangerous and fatal epidemic broke out. It is also said that the Island of Divar was once a place for Hindu devotees. There were numerous temples here before the 16th century, just as the temples of Shri Saptakoteshwar temple, some other temples committed to Lord Ganesha, Shree Dwarkeshwar and many more.

Later Goa was Christianized, and the temples were changed direction by Goan Hindus to other places. The historical site of what was turned into a pilgrimage is known as ‘porne birth’ ( known as Konkani for old pilgrim spot). Divar Island was among the first places that were occupied by the Portuguese. Though it is now a flourishing metropolis, you may still spot the remnants of the old buildings and structures.
