You haven't truly experienced Bhutan until you've stood atop Dochula Pass! We finally made it there last spring after years of dreaming about this mountain kingdom. The drive up is winding but totally worth it when we reached 3,100 meters and got slapped with those jaw-dropping Himalayan views.
The 108 white stupas scattered across the hillside caught us by surprise - they're actually memorials for fallen soldiers. Quite moving when you stand there in the mountain breeze.
If you are going to visitsites to visit in Bhutan, don't miss this one! It's betweenThimphu and Punakha, and quite frankly, the scenery alone is worth the trip. We got it when the rhododendrons were in full bloom - perfection!

Most mountain passes are just roads cutting through hills, right? Not this one! Dochula Pass feels more like somebody placed a spiritual wonderland smack in the middle of a highway.
The first thing that'll grab your attention is this cluster of 108 white stupas called the "Druk Wangyal Chortens." They're arranged in these neat rows against the backdrop of snowy mountains. We've been here several times, and honestly, they look different depending on when you visit - sometimes gleaming bright white in the morning sun, sometimes golden during sunset.
And those mountain views? Holy cow! On clear days, you can see peaks towering over 7,000 meters high, including Gangkhar Puensum - the highest mountain in Bhutan that nobody's ever climbed. Standing there, breathing that crisp mountain air while looking at these giants... well, words just don't do it justice.
