Dubai Museums

1. Etihad Museum

Etihad Museum is a 21st-century dynamic museum which was built in the year 1976, it takes visitors through a nostalgic transitional journey of Dubai from being a tiny fishing village to a metropolitan city.

The museum aims at informing visitors about the foundation of the United Arab Emirates. History Buffs are in for a treat as the museum is built in the same place where the United Arab Emirates was found. It is said to be the newest and most impressive Dubai Museum.

It also educates people about the time when the seven emirates decided to become one strong country.

Location: Jumeirah Street 1

Time: 10 am to 8 pm

2. Coffee Museum

If you are a coffee lover, then you should visit the coffee museum in the Al Fahidi Heritage Hub neighbourhood located in Bur Dubai.

The Coffee Museum is an eccentric museum in Dubai which brings coffee lovers and the coffee culture under one roof.

You get to know the history of coffee, both regional and international. You will find out how coffee was discovered back in the time and how its distribution took place, and everything you need to know to feed your curiosity.

Dubai is also known for its hospitality, and because of that, you will be treated with a hot cup of Java and popcorn when you enter the museum as a part of Arab culture.

Mr Khalid Al Mulla, who was a coffee enthusiast, brought the concept of this coffee museum which is the first-ever coffee museum in the Middle East. He is also the owner of one of the renowned coffee company, Eastern Men and Company, and it is because of him the Coffee Museum came into existence.

It goes by the name of Villa 44, and apart from being a Coffee Museum in Dubai, it also has a gift shop and a cafe to taste the authentic taste of coffee.

3. Dubai Museum

Dubai Museum is the oldest museum in Dubai, which was built in the 18th century. It is located among the busy streets of Bur Dubai and you can find several shops outside the museum.

Dubai Museum was initially built as a fort to protect the town from any foreign attacks and later became the then king’s mansion until 1896. After some years, it was turned into a prison.

In the year 1971, it was converted into a museum to showcase the history and tradition of Dubai.

The entrance fee is very minimal, and as soon as you enter, you can see old cannons, a boat and houses made of palm leaves and trunks, which are known as Arish.

There are galleries inside the museum that displays weapons and tools used by the Arabs during their time.

The best part of the Dubai Museum is located two floors underground, where you can see the display of the everyday lives of the Arabs before they saw the oil boom. There are depictions of the marketplace during that time and the Arab houses during that time.

You can see the diorama of a pearl diver, where the diver is diving with a clip on his nose to prevent water to go inside his nose, a pair of gloves and a rope tied to his ankle in order to pull him back from the water. Since there is a light and sound show as well, it enhances your experience altogether.

4. Saruq Al Hadid Museum

Saruq Al Hadid Museum goes back in time, I mean way back, somewhere in the Iron Age. This museum is located at the richest archaeological site in the Arabian Peninsula, the Saruq Al Hadid archaeological excavation site.

One of the rulers of Dubai discovered this location in 2002 while flying over a desert when he noticed a patch of land darker than the regular colour of sand.

The museum is on the banks of Dubai Creek, among many historical buildings, inside an old house that once belonged to the sheikh of the place, whose name was Juma Bin Maktoum Al Maktoum.

The most exciting part about this museum is that even now, the things are being unearthed and the findings are re-arranged after every three months.

The museum uses cutting-edge technology to display the history of the land and allows you to roll up your sleeves and give a hands-on experience by digging up artefacts from the excavation site. Children love this museum, and I am sure you would love it too.

Location: Shindhaga Bur Dubai

Time: 8 am to 8 pm

5. Museum Of The Future

The people of Dubai consider the Museum of the Future as “Dubai Best Museum.”

Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum consider it the most beautiful building in the world.

The museum is placed on the city super highway the Sheikh Zayed Road. Now let’s talk about the museum a bit.

So this Dubai museum was a project by the Dubai Future Foundation and it was open to the public in February 2022. The concept of the museum is to show the visitors how our society is evolving and what could be the future of our society over the span of time.

Dubai is known to be a town of limitless possibilities, and that is exactly what you will find here in this museum. It includes the elements of traditional exhibitions, themed attractions, and theatres that are pretty immersive and compels visitors to leave the past and dwell into the limitless possibilities of the future.

The fascinating design of this museum is like an asymmetric torus in glass and steel and has been recognised as one of the 14 most beautiful museums in the world by National Geographic.

The exterior of the museum is quite impressive, as one can see Arabic calligraphy engraved on the torus. The calligraphy reflects lines from one of the inspirational Arabic poems written by HH Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Inside the Museum of Future you will find a gateway to 50 years from now and the limitless possibilities the future holds regarding ground-breaking inventions.

6. Museum Of Illusion

If you are one of those people who like a little mystery and illusions, then don’t miss out on the Dubai Museum of Illusion because your mind is going to be blown by what you will see here.

Located in the Bur Dubai Al Seef, which is near the Dubai Creek, the Museum of Illusion is a museum full of mind-blowing optical illusions and draws a lot of tourists from around the world. It is one of the many museums of the chain of many museums of illusion, but the one present in Dubai is undoubtedly the biggest of all and offers some 80 tricks, puzzles, and illusions to keep your mind confused.

The best part about this museum is the Ames Room, where you can look bigger than your friend or even smaller, and you can defy gravity in the Slanting Room.

If you enter the Vortex Tunnel, you will be deceived by your mind as it will make you think that the platform you are standing on is moving; however, in reality, you will be standing on a still platform. Sounds fascinating, doesn’t it?

Location: Al Seef Bur Dubai

Time: 10 am to 10 pm

7. Pearl Museum Dubai

Before oil was discovered, Dubai dealt majorly in pearls and gold and was a major part of its income.

Arabian Pearls were popular around the world, but as artificial pearls took over, the business of pearl diving as a trade died out.

The Pearl Museum of Dubai, located in the National Banks of Dubai Headquarters in Deira, lies the largest collection of the most delicate pearls in the world.

Inside the museum, an informative presentation will be displayed about the different kinds of pearls and the oysters that populated them.

The extensive information about the pearls is based on their prices, colour, weight, size, shape, and lustre.

Earlier pearls were not only used as a piece of jewellery, but also a currency and the divers started training from the age of 10. You can also see the ancient coins inside the museum.

Location: Emirates NBD Headquarters, Deira

Time: 9 am to 5 pm
