Fatehsagar Lakes is an artificial lake that was named after Maharana Fateh Singh of Udaipur and Mewar. It is the second largest of Udaipur’s four lakes, the others being Lake Pichola, Udai Sagar Lake, and Dhebar Lake.
The lake covers one square kilometer and has three islands. The largest island, Nehru Park, has a boat-shaped restaurant and a small zoo. The second island has a public park with water-jet fountains, and the third island is home to the Udaipur Solar Observatory.
Interestingly, Fatehsagar Lake also helps with groundwater recharge, provides drinking water, supports agriculture and industry, and offers jobs to 60% of Udaipur’s population. During droughts, Cetyl alcohol is sprayed on the lake to reduce water evaporation and conserve its resources.
The location of Fatehsagar Lake in Rajasthan tour package is known for its beautiful scenery, with blue waters and green mountains in the background. While the Moti Magri Road offers great views of the lake, Fatehsagar Lake boating is also very popular, especially at sunset.
The Connaught Dam, or Connaught Bund, is an 800-long-long barrier on the eastern side of the lake. The History of Fateh Sagar Lake remembers, the renovation had cost 6 lakh rupees at that time and was funded solely by Maharana Fateh Singh. This dam expanded the lake and to pay tribute to Maharana Fateh Singh, it was then renamed as Fatehsagar Lake.
Today, the dam remains an important source of drinking water for Udaipur, as it is the second main water source. Fatehsagar Lake is crucial for Udaipur, not just historically but also for its practical benefits like providing water and attracting many visitors. Its beautiful scenery all around, especially when it’s the sunset, makes it a popular spot for boating and chilling.
