1. Kranji War Memorial

Kranji Memorial is one of the famous historical monuments in Singapore honouring those who were martyred during the Second World War. The Kranji War Memorial has a mass grave of 69 Chinese Soldiers, and there are 4400 white gravestones which makes it look haunting but beautiful. 

Every year, on a Sunday closest to 11 November, a huge remembrance is held, so if you happen to visit during that time, you should definitely check out this one of the top historical places in Singapore.

2. The Civilian War Memorial

The Civilian War Memorial in Singapore is one of the most visited historical sites in Singapore, which was unveiled by the then Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew in February 15th 1967. It also marks the 25th anniversary of the fall of Singapore to Japan, marked by four pillars, which are 65 meters high, depicting the four main races of Singapore, which include Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Eurasian. 

These towers are known as Chopsticks, and the War Memorial is one of the top historical places in Singapore.

3. National Museum Of Singapore

4. The Battle Box

One of the best historical places in Singapore, The Battle Box is a fascinating underground site located nine meters below Fort Canning Hill. It served as a bomb-proof bunker for Britain’s Malaya Command during World War II. This is where General Percival made the pivotal decision to surrender Singapore to Japan on February 15, 1942. Today, it is a museum featuring 26 underground rooms with exhibits like wax statues, animatronics, and wartime artefacts.

5. Mint Museum of Toys

6. Fort Siloso

A top historical place in Singapore, Fort Siloso is the only preserved coastal defense fort built in the 19th century to protect the city from sea invasions. It houses World War II-era memorabilia, military tunnels, and interactive tours. The Surrender Chambers here narrate Singapore’s journey under British and Japanese rule.

9. Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple

This is among the famous historical places in Singapore, built in 1881 by Hindus who migrated to the island. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali and features vibrant interiors with intricate carvings. During World War II, it provided a safe haven as it remained unharmed despite air raids.

10. Thian Hock Keng Temple
