The Rangbhari Ekadashi Holi festival in Varanasi is celebrated five days prior to the Holi festival in Varanasi, which commemorates the holy reunion of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. During this celebration, all the devotees of Lord Shiva come together in a procession, and one day after the Rangbhari Ekadashi, it is said, that Lord Shiva visits the cremation ground, which is known as Masan, with his devotees to take part in the Holi festival in Varanasi, and this unique event during the Holi celebration in Varanasi is called Masan Ki Holi.
As per some beliefs, it is said that Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati celebrated the Rangbhari Ekadashi Holi festival in Varanasi after their marriage. Since Lord Shiva’s most preferred supernatural beings which include vampires, ghosts, and spirits, do not engage in the celebration, Lord Shiva himself visits the Masan Ghat to play Holi with them. This tradition is proof that Lord Shiva loved all beings whether they were visible or invisible.
Holi is scheduled to be held on 25th March 2024 on Monday, so it’s good news for everyone because it’s a long weekend, and you don’t take any leaves, you just need to plan accordingly and you are good to go.
Besides the Holi celebrations taking place in every nook and corner of the town, one of the major Holi events in Varanasi is the Rang Rasiya chapter 4, which is scheduled to be held on 24th March 2024 at the Ganesh Mandapam.
