This incident fueled discussions about various extra charges airlines add to ticket prices. Many travellers already find flight costs high, and these additional fees make flying even more expensive.
To this, Indigo Airlines responded that the CUTE fee stands for “Common User Terminal Equipment” charge. This fee covers the cost of airport facilities that passengers use, such as escalators and metal detectors. The airline says it’s a standard charge for using various equipment during a traveller’s time at the airport.
For the above clarification, Singh pointed out that the airport equipment like metal detectors, is managed by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), a government agency. Singh believes that the government should bear the costs for these items and not travellers.
His comments raise questions about which airport services should be covered in ticket prices and which should be government-funded.
Advocate Shrayansh Singh further argues that airport infrastructure should be funded by public money and taxes, not extra charges on passengers.
Many social media users agree with Singh, questioning why travellers should pay for what they see as basic airport services. Others defend the airline, saying these fees help cover necessary costs. Few people questioned if Indigo’s CUTE fee was recently added and is region-specific.
Amid this discussion, it is evident that passengers demand proper information about the ticket fee they are being charged. It highlights the clear need for airlines’ justification and clear communication including Indigo’s CUTE Fee and similar charges.
