With effect from April 1, 2024, Japan has standardized the process of visas by introducing Japan E-Visa for Indians. This hassle-free way has tailored the efforts for the applicant to half. Anyone can apply for an e-visa electronically through the Japan Visa Application Center operated by VFS Global Japan E-visa for Indians offers a Single-Entry short-term visa permitting a stay of up to 90 days for tourism. Under the revised system, the applicant still has to apply to Visa Application Centres, and the process is the same as before but, now we do not have to affix a visa sticker and carry a physical copy of the visa to the Japanese airport, instead, we will receive the visa on the electronically on our mobile phone.
Please Note that Japan doesn’t give Visa on Arrivals to Indians. So, Make sure that you get a Visa beforehand in India. Upon arrival at the airport, the tourist needs to verify the ‘Visa Issuance Notice’ on their smartphone.
Japan E-Visa For Indians, Who Are Seeking A Japan Tour Visa, Here Is A Step-By-Step Process:
Step 1:Visit The Official Website Of VFS Global
- At the start, the applicant needs to visit the official website of the Japan Visa Application Centre which is managed by VFS Global.
- Once it redirects to the official website, click on Apply for a Visa.
- Click on View Moreon ‘Identify Visa Type’ and click on the hyperlink that says, ‘Visa Type’
- The screen of Visa Type will open. Select the state where you belong from.
- In the Visa Information Screen please select the Visa Type.
- Once done, download the application Form in the Download Form section.
- Complete the form accurately and ensure all the requirements are filled.
- Print all the required photocopies of all the documents for the single-entry tourist Visa.
Step 3: Book An Appointment
- Once filled out the application, book an appointment at the Visa Application Center.
- To book an appointment click on ‘Book an Appointment’ then click on the hyperlink stating ‘Book an appointment’.
- It will redirect you to the Login Page. if you do not have an account you can create an account. It will take a while to activate your account.
- Upon booking you will receive an appointment confirmation email containing the letter of appointment.
Step 4: Awite For The Decision
- During your appointment take a photocopy of your visa application form to present it at the center.
- Track the visa application status online using the reference number from the invoice or receipt issued by the center, along with your date of birth.
- Wait for an email notification indicating when your decision is ready for collection at the Visa Application Centre.
If your application is accepted for eVisa, you will receive an electronic Visa instead of a visa sticker attached to the passport.
Step 5: Display of Visa Issuance Notice
- Once you have landed at the airport, display your‘ visa issuance notice’ on your device.
- Your travel agent will give you a ‘Via Issuance Notice’ inclusive of a two-dimension barcode.
- Scan the barcode, from your device and input the required information to display the electronic ‘Visa Issuance Notice’

Eligibility To Apply For E-Visa
Following is a list of criteria for Japan E-Visa for Indians- You are not a citizen/national of Visa exempted country.
- You are traveling to Japan by Air.
- You are an ordinary passport holder
- You are planning to stay in Japan for less than 90 days (short-term) for tourism.
- You are applying for a single-entry visa.
Following is a list of criteria you cannot apply for Japan E-Visa for Indians-
- You are convicted of a crime or offense
- You are applying for a multi-entry visa
- You are traveling to Japan by ship.
- The purpose of your visit is not tourism but other purposes like meeting relatives/ friends, business, study, work, etc.
