Deep in Bhutan’s history, Kila Goemba, also known as Kila monastery, is steeped in stories dating back to the 9th century Tradition has it as the mother of the revered Tibetan saint Padmasambhava or Guru Rinpoche who brought Buddhism to Bhutan he first blessed this holy place. Lying in solitude and silence, the choice of locations made it the perfect sanctuary for meditation and spiritual work. 

Throughout the ages, it beckoned many monks and monkss to seek a peaceful refuge in introspection and religious study. Fast forward to the 14th century when Kila Goemba arose as an official monastery chosen by the revered Tibetan lama Drubthob Chuck Sam and today it is acclaimed with many buildings adorning the grounds, such as a main temple and of the monastery. 

Since its foundation, Kila Goemba has been the center of Drukpa Kagyu Buddhism, the Buddhist school in Bhutan. The monastery has been a cornerstone in the spiritual fabric of the community, offering comKila to devout monks engaged in prayer, meditation and religious study. 

Despite its remote location, Kila Goemba thrives to this day—supporting age-old customs and offering a glimpse into Bhutan’s rich spiritual heritage.
