History of Lhodrak Kharchhu Monastery 

Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche, a distinguished spiritual figure, had a vision of creating a haven for religious learning and spiritual practice when he set up the Lhodrak Kharchu Monastery. His goal was to uphold and spread the teachings of the Nyingma lineage, one of Tibetan Buddhism’s oldest schools that emphasizes ongoing spiritual practice and the significance of traditional rituals. 

In its early years, the monastery witnessed the construction of its main prayer hall and living quarters for resident monks. Despite facing challenges due to its remote location, Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche’s unwavering dedication and support from local followers facilitated the rapid establishment of this sacred place.

Architecture of Lhodrak Kharchhu Monastery

In the center of the monastery is a large prayer hall called Dukhang which serves as its spiritual center. This beautiful building has striking architectural features such as ornately decorated wooden pillars and tall pillars supporting the high roof. The architecture of the monastery follows traditional Bhutanese aesthetics, reflected in its Dzong style design.
