Maharaja Shiv Singh started building the Mahamandir Temple in 1812. It took about 10 years to finish. People say the temple was built to give the people of Jodhpur a place to pray and worship.

Mahamandir Temple Architecture 

The Mahamandir Temple is a beautiful building made of red sandstone. Its walls have detailed carvings. The temple has 84 pillars and each pillar has its unique design which is a special attraction.  

There is a big open space in the middle of the temple for religious ceremonies. Around this courtyard, there are small temples for different Hindu gods. Over time, Mahamandir Temple has undergone restorations to maintain its beauty

Visit the Mahamandir Temple in the morning as it is quieter with fewer people. Also, to witness the temple beautifully decorated, visit in February during the Maha Shivratri Festival.

How To Reach Mahamandir Temple  

To visit the Mahamandir Temple in Jodhpur, you can fly, take a train, or ride a bus from nearby cities. Once you’re in Jodhpur, use local transport or rent a car.

Mahamandir Temple Pooja Timings 

The temple opens twice every day

  • Morning: 5 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Evening: 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. 

Mahamandir Temple Entry Fee 

There is no fee to enter Mahamandir Temple, Jodhpur.

Places To Visit Near Mahamandir Temple

  • Mehrangarh Fort
Mehrangarh Fort is a big fort on top of a hill at 410 feet in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Rao Jodha built it in 1459.  The fort has thick walls that have seen many battles. Inside the fort, there are several palaces with beautiful carvings and large open spaces called courtyards.
  • Jaswant Thada
This building is made of white marble. Maharaja Sardar Singh built it in the 19th century to honour his father. It has a great architecture that looks a bit like a temple. 
  • Clock Tower

Ghanta Ghar, also called the Clock Tower of Rajasthan, is an important landmark in Jodhpur. It is located next to the busy Sardar Market, which is named after Maharaja Sardar Singh. This historical tower offers great views of the whole city.

  • Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park

This park covers a large area of 72 acres close to Mehrangarh Fort.  It has plants that naturally grow in dry and desert areas. People created the park in 2006 to bring back the original plant life to the rocky land near the fort. Visitors were first allowed to enter the park in February 2011.

  • Umaid Bhawan Palace

Umaid Bhawan Palace is an impressive historical landmark in Jodhpur on top of Chittar Hill. The palace was finished in 1943 and named after a past ruler, Maharaja Umaid Singh. 

This large palace is made of yellow sandstone. It has a beautiful combination of Eastern and Western architectural styles.
