Renowned for its expansive, soft golden sand, Negombo Beach in Sri Lanka is one of the best places to visit in Sri Lanka and stretches north of the town and along the hotel strip. Although the sea here has slightly rougher currents, making it less ideal for swimming compared to the southern beaches, both tourists and locals still enjoy an occasional dip. The warm shores are perfect for sunbathing, unwinding in the sunshine, or taking a pleasant, breezy sunset stroll.

Among the activities in Negombo Beach, the coast is great for beach games like volleyball and football with friends, family, and loved ones. History of Negombo Beach

During the Dutch colonial period, this location served as a port for exporting cinnamon and other indigenous spices. However, with the arrival of the British, the cinnamon trade dwindled. Nonetheless, Negombo has remained a prominent fishing port throughout the island’s history.

How to reach Negombo Beach

By Air:To reach Negombo, you can fly into Katunayake Airport (CMB), which is closer to Negombo than to Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. Hotel pickups may be more expensive than taking a taxi or shuttle. Another nearby airport is Bandaranaike International Airport, located about 5-6 km from Negombo. The city’s economy largely depends on tourism and its centuries-old fishing industry, along with the historical cinnamon trade, brassware, and ceramic works.

By Road:A shuttle bus from the airport is a more affordable option. Airport taxis can be booked from the departure lounge within the airport.

Ladakh isn’t like other destinations wherein you need some instructions due to the high altitudes.
