Sultan Park was built in many ways since the Royal Palace was demolished in the late 16th century. The main thing about this park is that one of the wings of the Royal Palace that wasn’t destroyed in the demolition was rebuilt and is now the National Museum was inaugurated in the year 1952 by then Prime Minister Mohamed Amin Didi. 

Walking through the park, you’ll notice the mix of old and new. The ancient walls of the royal palace still stand, offering a glimpse into the Maldives’ royal history. Meanwhile, the beautifully manicured gardens and modern touches like art installations create a delightful contrast, making every corner of the park feel like a discovery.

To reach Sultan Park in the Maldives, you first need to fly into Velana International Airport (MLE), located on Hulhulé Island near the capital city, Malé. From the airport, take a short ferry ride, which typically takes about 10 minutes, to reach Malé. Ferries operate frequently, but if you prefer more convenience, taxis and shuttle services are also available. Once in Malé, Sultan Park is easily accessible by a short walk from the ferry terminal or the main taxi stands. The park is centrally located near important landmarks such as the Maldives Islamic Centre and the Old Friday Mosque, making it a convenient and peaceful destination for visitors exploring the capital.

The place also houses the properties of the previous Sultans that have been preserved like armour and thrones.
