Indian passport holders can still enter without a visa for eligible tourism trips, just with a shorter window now, 30 days instead of the earlier 60.

Thailand’s New Visa Categories: Where Does India Stand?
Under Thailand's revised visa rules, India is part of the 30-day visa-exemption group that will take effect from September 15, 2026. Indian passport holders will continue to be able to enter Thailand without applying for a Thailand visa for Indians in advance for eligible tourism visits of up to 30 days.
Thailand’s final framework has three separate short-stay arrangements:

So, India is not in the 15-day category and is not part of the Visa on Arrival list. Indian travellers remain in Thailand’s main 30-day visa-free tourism group.
This is an important distinction from the May 2026 proposal, which had indicated a possible move for India to the Visa on Arrival category. The final rules published in the Royal Gazette on August 31 retained India in the 30-day visa-exemption group.
Why Is Thailand Changing Its Visa Rules?
Thailand’s Cabinet approved a review of its visa exemption and Visa on Arrival arrangements in May 2026. The final measures were published in the Royal Gazette on August 31.
According to Thailand’s Government Public Relations Department, the revision considers:
- National security
- Tourism and economic interests
- Reciprocity
- Reducing overlapping visa privileges
- The convenience offered by the e-Visa system
The May announcement should therefore be understood as the initial policy proposal, while the Royal Gazette notification published on August 31 establishes the final arrangement.
Thailand E-Visa for Indians: When Do You Need One?
The revised visa-exemption rules do not mean that Thailand’s e-Visa system has been discontinued.
The Thailand e-Visa for Indians remains relevant for travellers who require a visa based on their intended duration or purpose of travel. Indian tourists planning an eligible holiday of up to 30 days do not need to apply for an e-Visa simply because Thailand has reduced its visa-free stay from 60 days to 30 days.
Travellers requiring a different visa category should check the latest requirements through Thailand’s official e-Visa system before travelling.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card: What Indian Travellers Should know
- Visa-free entry does not remove Thailand’s Digital Arrival Card requirement.
- Non-Thai nationals entering Thailand are required to complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within three days before arrival, including the arrival date. The TDAC is separate from a visa and is an arrival-registration requirement.
- Travellers should have details such as their passport information, arrival details, accommodation information and other required travel information ready when completing the form.
What Documents Should Indian Travellers Carry?
Travelling under Thailand's visa exemption doesn't mean you skip packing paperwork, these are the documents required to travel to Thailand from India that tourists should still have on hand:
- Valid Indian passport
- Confirmed return or onward ticket
- Hotel or accommodation details
- Travel itinerary
- TDAC confirmation
- Proof of funds, if immigration asks for it
And qualifying for visa exemption isn't the same as a guaranteed entry; Thai immigration officers make that call at the border every time.
What Happens If You Are Already in Thailand?
Indian travellers who enter Thailand before September 15, 2026, under the existing visa-exemption rules can remain until the final date of stay granted by Thai immigration.
The permitted date shown on the immigration stamp will determine how long the traveller can remain in Thailand. The new 30-day rule does not retrospectively shorten a stay that has already been granted.
Can Indians Stay in Thailand for More Than 30 Days?
If you are planning to stay in Thailand for more than 30 days, do not assume that the visa-free period can simply be exceeded.
Travellers planning a longer stay should check the appropriate Thai visa category and requirements before travelling. An extension may be possible in certain circumstances, but it is subject to Thai immigration approval and should not be treated as automatic.
