Udai Sagar Lake in Udaipur has to be a must-visit attraction on your Rajasthan tour. It is one of Udaipur’s five famous lakes, made by the Mewar kings. Maharana Udai Singh started building this lake in 1559 and finished in 1565.

That’s why it is called Udai Sagar Lake. The lake is 9 metres deep, which is not as deep as some other lakes in Udaipur. During the rainy season, the lakes often get too full of water. To deal with this, the Rajasthan government has made different ways to store extra water.

Maharana Raj won a big fight against Emperor Aurangzeb’s soldiers near Udai Sagar Lake in Udaipur Rajasthan. Because of this, the rulers of Mewar think this lake is significant in their history.

People can see the blue water from rivers and rain and enjoy the pretty views around the lake —— one of the best things to do at Udai Sagar Lake.

Maharana Udai Singh built a dam on the Berach River to make sure his kingdom had enough water. This created Udai Sagar Lake. The lake covers 10.5 square kilometres and flooded 479 square kilometres of land. It can hold up to 23.4 million cubic metres of water.

They made a canal to the Berach River to stop the lake from flooding during rainy times. Now, a zinc factory in Debari uses water from this lake. Most years, the lake has plenty of water, except when it’s very dry.

In 1573, Kunwar Man Singh met Maharana Pratap Singh by Udai Sagar Lake. Kunwar Man Singh wanted Pratap Singh to surrender to the Mughal Emperor Akbar. Pratap Singh turned down the invitation and angered Man Singh.

This led to a big fight called the Battle of Haldighati in 1576. Later, Maharana Raj Singh won a fight against Aurangzeb’s army near the lake. Today, people like to visit Udai Sagar Lake because its water is calm and peaceful.

In Ladakh, find the perfect blend of culture, adventure, and serenity. December last year I decided that my next trip would be Ladakh but didn’t know how to go about it. I knew I wanted to travel in a group, as I had prior experiences of traveling in a group but wanted an organiser I could trust. Ladakh isn’t like other destinations wherein you need some instructions due to the high altitudes.
