About Universal Studios Singapore

Universal Studios Singapore is a theme park located within the Resorts World Sentosa integrated resort at Sentosa in Singapore. There are many things to do in Universal Studios which features 28 rides at Universal Studios, entertainment shows at Universal Studios, and six theme park attractions at Universal Studios zones. 

It is one of the five Universal Studios theme parks around the world and thus exploring it with your group of friends, partner, and also family is one of the best things to do in Singapore.

Universal Studios Singapore history

The owner of Universal Studios Singapore is Genting Singapore. The construction of Resorts World Sentosa and Universal Studios Singapore began on 19 April 2008. After almost two years of construction, the park opened on 18 March 2010. It was a soft opening. The park had its soft opening period from 18 March 2010 to 26 October 2010.

The official grand opening of the park was held on 28 May 2011, along with the “grand opening gala” being held on 27 May 2011 evening. This event witnessed many celebrities along with almost 1,600 guests.

On 21 October 2011, Universal Studios Singapore began their Halloween Horror Nights events.

On 3 April 2019, the expansion of Universal Studios Singapore with two new themed areas, Minion Land and Super Nintendo World was announced.

Universal Studios Singapore layout

Universal Studios Singapore is 25 hectares (62 acres) in size. There are a total of 24 attractions, of which 18 are original or specially adapted for the park. There are six theme park attractions at Universal Studios surrounding a lagoon. Each zone is mostly based on movies and/or television, featuring their own entertainment shows at Universal Studios, meet and greet locations, over 30 restaurants and food carts, and 20 retail stores and carts located around the park.

Zone 1 – Hollywood:

This zone is themed after the real Hollywood Boulevard of the 1970s. Framed by “dynamic” architecture, palm trees, and a replica of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The streets are lined up with many unique shops where you can enjoy the experience of shopping in Singapore and some restaurants to indulge in delicious food. 

Zone 2 – New York:

This zone is themed after post-modern New York City and features replicas of New York landmarks. The area is enhanced by neon lights and flanked by street façades. Here you step on to a movie set that replicates the Big Apple.

Zone 3 – Sci-Fi City:

This zone is themed after what cities and metropolises “may look like in the future”, according to popular science fiction franchises. In this zone, you can explore the fabulous world of Sci-fi City, a perfect place for science fiction lovers. Experiencing the next generation 4D motion-base thrill ride – The Transformers is among the best things to do in Universal Studios

Zone 4 – Ancient Egypt:

After spinning on the exhilarating rides of the Sci-fi world, step into the world of ancient Egypt. It’s a haven for archaeology lovers and Egyptologists. This zone is themed after the Egyptian architecture and artifacts found during the “Golden Age of Egyptian Exploration in the 1930s. Here you can explore the buried treasures of The Mummy and Hog on the spicy Mediterranean and Malay cuisine at Oasis Spice Café.

Zone 5 – Jurassic Park- The Lost World:

Now step into The Lost World to go further back in time for prehistoric adventures. This zone is themed after two franchises,  Jurassic Park and Waterworld, of which each have separate areas within the zone.  The rides at Universal Studios and activities are majorly based on these two most popular movies ever. It features a lot of dining and shopping options too.

Zone 5 – Far Far Away:

From The Lost World to the world of fairy tales, this zone is themed after The Kingdom of Far Far Away featured in DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek. Here you will enjoy the playful world of Shrek. It will bring the magical home of Princess Fiona with its towering castle and cobbled-stone streets to life and it is one of the best things to do in Universal Studios.

How to get to Universal Studios?

Universal Studios is situated in Sentosa Island. It is really easy to reach this destination, as it is well connected to all the transportation facilities available in Singapore.

MRT (Mass Rapid Transit): MRT is the cheapest way to get to Universal Studios. From Bugis MRT Station, take the train to Outram Park MRT Station, alight and transfer train to HarbourFront MRT Station. From HarbourFront you can choose to take a bus at the bus interchange or monorail at vivo city level 3 into USS.

Bus: There are many buses that halt at Vivocity, Merrill Lynch, and Harbourfront. Take the buses (numbered 65, 80, 93, 188, 855, 10, 30, 97, 100, 131, 143, 145 or 166) and reach your destination.

Monorail: Take a Sentosa express monorail from Imbiah Lookout. To reach Imbiah Lookout, board a cable car from Harbourfront II.  Sentosa express monorail will halt at Waterfront station.  Directly Head towards Universal Studio hereafter.

Shuttle: If you are a tourist, make sure you show your passport while boarding the bus that will directly take you to Universal Studios. The theme park provides this service for free for all the tourists.

Taxi: Getting a cab is the easiest way to reach Universal Studio. It will cost you 10 to 15 SGD.

  • Child – Age 4-12;  Adult – Age 13-59; Senior – Above 59
  • Child – S$. 59.72; Adult–  S$. 44.00; Senior-S$. 29.86

Universal Studios Singapore Express Pass

In addition to your admission ticket you can also consider buying the Universal Express ticket. The ticket allows you to bypass the regular queue at participating attractions in Universal Studio Singapore. Universal Studio Singapore Express Pass gives you access to a separate line with a shorter wait line at each attraction. It is valid only for one time use. 
  • Off-peak Universal Express add another S$30
  • Peak Universal Express add another S$50

Timings of Universal Studios Singapore

Universal Studios is usually open from 10 AM-7 PM, 7 days a week. Exceptions occur during festivals or emergencies.
