Chief Secretary Raturi stressed the importance of the “Uttarakhand Garbage Bags Policy” in a recent meeting and ordered officials to enforce it strictly. The state’s transport department will now check vehicles at all entry points to make sure they follow this rule.
This step is part of a plan to protect Uttarakhand’s natural beauty. In the past, littering has been a big problem, especially on the Char Dham route and near famous tourist places like Dehradun, Mussoorie, and Nainital.
The state’s transport department is now working with nearby states to make sure all vehicles entering Uttarakhand have a dustbin or garbage bag. Under the “Uttarakhand Garbage Bags Policy”, trip cards will be issued. And for that, drivers will need to show they have a garbage bag and other important papers like car registration and insurance.
The government hopes this will solve the growing garbage problem that many groups like NGOs and social organisations have been complaining about.
